The Herr manufacturing Piper Cub model is geared for the intermediate to advanced builder. If you’re just starting out building a balsa model then I would suggest one of the Guillows kits to cut your teeth on. If you’re looking to move up to a more intricate build then this is the model for you. I would make sure you read the instructions thru a couple of times before starting so that you have a good grasp of the build. The model will take some time to assemble so be prepared for at least a couple of weekends and a few weekdays to put it together. All in all it was fun. So if you love to build. Then this would be a nice kit for you. If you’re into ARF’s then I would pass this up, unless you are ready for a good challenge. I know I enjoyed building the kit.
Pros
- The cub is designed to have minimal weight.
- All the parts assembled nicely.
- The parts are all laser cut so they were easy to remove from boards.
- Plenty on tissue provided in the kit
Cons
- Instruction were a little hard to read.
- Parts are not numbered so you will need number them yourself from the directions.
- The trailing edge for the rudder and elevator need special attention so please review the video on how to do that.
If you want to use a different color tissue that what is provided in the Herr Manufacturing Piper Cub Kit then here is a list of tissue sources.
